phils analysis of film opening

                                    Wayne’s world – PG

Intro-
Diegetic sound of voice advertising an arcade as the image of a man talking on TV fade from titles, this already gives the feel of the movie a relaxed atmosphere. -cut to- A man and a woman are in bed watching the television. Their facial expressions look displease and comedic as they flick through channels when they come across ‘wayne’s world’ and stop flicking. –cut to- wayne’s basement where the show is being filmed. It is brightly lit and the characters look happy and are doing the intro to their show which we can see as the camera tracks along behind some film equipment and shows us how the show will look as it goes out. We already get clues about the film being about wayne’s TV show who is already very obviously the main character as most of the talking is done by him.  The scene of the basement is mostly made up of bright colours which is another indication of a comedy. When we see through the camera on the screen we can see that the show is unprofessional and shambolic which adds humour to the scenes. The shots are relatively long; the opening is very slow paced suggesting that the film is not at all serious. There is also a lot of comic noise and dialogue as Garth, another main character who is also representing in a comical way (big glasses with long bushy hair and scruffy clothing) is getting his hair cut by one of the shows guests’ hair cutting invention which is also something that would not feature in a serious film.-cut to- Something goes wrong with the machinery and one of the crew members hits the equipment with a wrench until it stops sparking. This is an unnecessary seen to the plot yet it adds humour to the scene, this is more evidence that the movies sole purpose is to entertain. –cut to- People in bed discussing the show. Conversation is very light hearted, the people look very normal and care free and tone is very frivolous. The camera does not cut much a tall and is still shooting in a very laid back way. –cut to- Wayne is talking to the camera touring his house and explaining his situation and telling us about himself. The camera is tracked and is going away from wayne as he walks towards it. The fact that the character is talking to camera is very light hearted and friendly. His dialogue gives us a rough idea of what will happen in the rest of the film. There are not particularly any special effects in the intro which suggests that it will not be a very high octane film. There are not many cuts while he talks to the camera.
